President of USM: Dr. Marc R. Hilaire President

"I studied medicine at the State University of Haiti and my career has taken me from hospital medicine into clinical and academic practice. I have led research teams seeking to enhance the role of medical practice in the diagnosis and care of people with a variety of diseases. It is now my privilege to be the President of L’Union des Saints Marcois and working together with our Board, school leaders, partners and students to make a difference to the education and health of people within St Marc and beyond."

ROADMAP

Roots: Answering a Call in Saint-Marc

SM was founded on a simple but urgent conviction: that the young people of Saint-Marc and its neighboring communities deserved a path out of poverty through education, and that the diaspora had both the will and the responsibility to build that path. In its earliest years, the organization focused on establishing trust — identifying the families most in need, relieving immediate hardship, and laying the groundwork for what would become its signature mission: keeping children in school.

Foundation: Formalizing the Mission

As "Union des Saint Marcois, INC." took formal shape, the organization sharpened its purpose around four pillars drawn directly from its mission — relieving the poor and underprivileged, advancing education and religion, easing the burdens placed on government and community institutions, and confronting the forces of community deterioration and juvenile delinquency. This was the period where scholarship support moved from informal generosity to a structured, sustainable program — one designed to outlast any single donor or board term.

Growth: A Movement Across the Diaspora

What began as a local effort grew into a coordinated network. USM began working hand-in-hand with other aid providers addressing health, education, and family needs — not competing for impact, but combining it. Donor engagement expanded across the diaspora, turning individual generosity into a collective movement. Hundreds of students and their families felt the direct result: access to adequate education that would otherwise have been out of reach.

Today: More than Twelve Years of Hope, One Foundation

Today, USM stands on twelve years of accumulated trust, partnership, and results. Global Education remains the foundation of everything the organization does — the belief that a scholarship isn't just tuition, it's a transformed trajectory for a child, a family, and eventually a community. None of it would exist without the board members who gave their time, the donors who gave consistently, and the partners — local and international — who chose to walk this road with USM.
